Victorian Rococo Faux Leather Wing Chair and Ottoman

We can't remember if we were first attracted by the tastefully detailed hand-carving or the tobacco-colored faux leather stretched on the dark mahogany, 8-way hand-tied frames of this wing chair and matching ottoman. Whatever the reason, we've continued to admire the detailing--Victorian curves finished front and back with braided trim and hand-carved legs. Lord Cumberland's Throne and Foot Stool

Lord Cumberland had this throne built for his royal guestroom. Not knowing whether his visitors would be kings or queens, he had both likenesses carved into the spindles and regal lion heads carved roaring from the arm rests. The matching wooden footstool has the same quality, hand-tacked leather cushion and deeply carved Georgian details as the wide throne. These replicas take over a day to hand carve. 89 lbs.

There was no choice whatsoever--once we laid eyes on this imposingly magnificent piece, we had to have it for our catalog! It requires over 3 weeks to carve in the very masculine tradition of English antiques. Its immense claw feet rise, flanked by winged creatures and regal sentinels, in high relief. The leather, cushioned seat spans a full yard (room for two!), while the stately back stands almost 6 feet high, making it the most massive chair we've ever offered.
